Obviously, the greater the ranking, the higher the value of that inbound link in terms of search engine rankings. Yes, contextual link building is important, because they boost results on search engines. But, the number of links on a particular content page also matters to Google. While Google is the big dog when it comes to search engines, don’t forget about Bing. It does hold a considerable share of the search market. While focusing on user experience as we’ve advocated will work for Bing as well, you should do technical audits of your site for both search engines, to make sure you have not missed any important element. Your homepage is the most important and likely your strongest webpage. The link power (AKA link juice) is distributed from the homepage to all other subpages. Ideally, you should distribute the link juice evenly to all other subpages through internal links and easy navigation menus. Having an appropriate title will increase traffic to your site. The placement of keywords in your title has a huge impact on determining where a search engine will place your site. The page’s title should include some of your site’s keywords to increase your ranking in the search engines.
How can you enhance the user experience?
The algorithm responsible for taking the world’s information and organizing it into (usually) 10 entries is, as you likely know, complicated. The source of a link matters a great deal to how much weight it carries in Google’s algorithm. When building your content, it’s important to remember to give the
crawlers enough to bite into. A hundred words typically isn’t enough copy
for these crawlers to read and understand what the content is about. And
this content shouldn’t be stuffed with keywords either, as some search
engines (as you’ll learn in later sections) punish websites for keyword
stuffing. Today, smartphone usage is so huge that more searches are done on smartphones than on computers. Making sure your website is mobile friendly is massively important. Utilise existing relationships with suppliers, partners and even customers to get links to your website. For example, if you sell a supplier’s products see if they have a section on their website that lists places to buy their products or distributors and ask if you can be added to this list. Other sources of links are industry specific directories where it makes sense for your business to have a listing.
